Codex Alimentarius
The Hand Of Apophis
November 2014
Released: 2014, Bored Stiff Records
Rating: 4.0/5
Reviewer: UK Team

Think of the Devon countryside. I bet you're thinking about strolling green hills, farmers with an abundance of cliché catchphrases, cows as far as the eye could see, I'm right yeah? In amongst all this pleasantry however, is a beast which some may call Codex Alimentarius. Their latest EP 'The Hand Of Apophis' is one which although short, stills packs a punch. Like Peter Dinklage after fighting for 7 seasons in the Octagon.

Straight through the 4 songs, there is a sense of grandeur which sucks you in, then spits you out with no warning. It's a relentless onslaught, covered in all the bells, whistles and dazzling veneer from the likes of Dimmu Borgir and Behemoth. The landscape of the sound is vast, as the production values are sky high, which in turn gives a the EP an aura of majesty, as well as total destruction.

The Hand Of Apophis is well polished, skull crushingly heavy, and as tight as a gnats lady parts. The Exeter six piece, having already toured with the likes of Vader and Krisiun, seem well on their way to smashing through that glass ceiling, and doing so with the force of two planets colliding, I simply can't fault this except for one thing, by the time you've properly gotten a feel for it, it's over, but that's just me being picky, rest assured, the EP is rock solid.

For Fans Of: Dimmu Borgir, Vader, Behemoth
